COMPLIMENTING clothes

 When a woman says to a man "u look handsome tonight" - it probably means that
- she is fishing for a compliment
- she is in love with him
- she is friendly and polite


2. When a woman compliments a man to other people (in his absence) - it probably that
- she admires him
- she likes him
- she is in love with him


3. When a woman is always complimenting other people in conversation - it probably means that
- she is a terrible flirt
- she is desperate to be loved or liked
- she is friendly and wants to make people feel confident


4. When a teacher asks the students what they think about the lesson or course - it probably means that
- wants helpful criticism
- wants the students to say that he or she is a great teacher and that the course is wonderful


5. When a woman is given a compliment and she replies "thank u" (instead of "I don't think so") for ex

-Man: u r so beautiful!
-Woman: Thank u!

It probably means that she is
- proud and vain
- polite
- very grateful for a compliment
Possible Compliments:

  • Where did you get that (indirect ) ...
  • You write very well, you should ...
  • I admire your ...
  • Well done, your work ...
  • Congratulations on your ...
  • Keep up the good work, ...
  • You take after your mother/father, ...
You can comment specifically on the person's skill.
You can also offer a general compliment:
  • You have an amazing voice.
  • You have a real knack for public speaking.
  • You're very talented.
  • You have a true gift.
The following compliments are very common:
  • You look very nice today.
  • Nice tie (dress, jacket, shoes, etc.)
  • That color looks very good on you.
  • That color suits you very well.

Now this is a really good car.  I'm sure it handles well.
To make a person feel confident about having made a wise purchase, give compliments like these:
  • That's a fine-looking sports car you have. How does it handle?
  • Congratulations on your new home! It's wonderful.
  • You bought an apartment? … That's a great location.
  • Let me see your new laptop. … Cool. I like the design. How's the performance?
If you find a child particularly cute, you may speak directly to the child or offer your words to the parents:
  • "What a sweet baby!"
  • "Hello there! Aren't you cute?"
  • "You have a beautiful daughter."
  • "That's a very handsome boy you have."
